As much fun as it is to wind yarn cakes on a ball winder, sometimes it’s nice to wind a rustic little yarn ball by hand. Or perhaps it’s the fact that I know I have the option of convenience that makes it so nice to hand wind a little ball of handspun wool!
This really is a little ball - just 20g of merino I spun years ago on my drop spindle. It’s thick and thin, and a little ropey, but still surprisingly soft. I’m almost sad to have to knit it, I love it in the ball so much, but I’ve another little 20g spindle spun hank stashed away, so I shall knit on and look forward to winding a second ball.
