tangled

A couple of days ago I decided to overdye some hideous variegated yarn that I first dyed last year. I mustn’t have checked the ties properly, because tangle city has arrived!

I was hoping to cast on for a new pair of socks with this yarn this week, but I think it’s going to take a while to sort out this mess! Thankfully I’m one of those strange people who quite enjoys untangling stuff.

I finally finished the second cuff of my Vanilla socks. These are moving quite slowly because I keep forgetting about them (sign of too many WIPs perhaps?!), but they’re background knitting so that’s ok. I might be heading to the Tyneside Cinema tonight, and if I do these will most probably be accompanying me.

Speaking of lingering knits, I’m finally up to the border on my Boneyard shawl. I fear I might have gotten a bit carried away with this one because it is a bit of a behemoth of a shawl and I’m almost certain that it’ll grow even more after blocking… yikes. Too lazy to frog back though, so onward I plod. This one has stalled for a few days because I’ve been lazy in seeking out another ball of the gingery yarn. Anyone else hate cracking into a new ball of yarn just for the sake of a few more rows of knitting? It’s one of my pet peeves, and probably another reason why I’ve been stalling on finishing this off.

And finally, my nails have been uncharacteristically naked for a couple of weeks but I finally pulled out the polish again yesterday. It’s been so cold in my little North-Easterly corner of the UK that I couldn’t face any bright polishes, so I went for Chinchilly by Essie. I’ve owned this for a while, but this is the first time I’ve used it, and I’m now a big fan. I’m a sucker for any of those beige/greige/dirty/muted colours so this is smack bang in the middle of my comfort zone! Love it!

Fab nail colour, I love it :) Also love the colour of your tangled yarn, hope it doesn't take too long to tame it!

You should be a hand model and that's all I have to say about that!!!!!! I mean really ... you should!!!!

As for the tangles, I have some of the same sitting on my work desk and strangely enough, I don't mind untangling either. The other WIPs are coming along nicely; can't wait to see the finished F.O.s

I love that nail polish color. I'm a weirdo too and like to untangle yarn and oxygen cords. Maybe you could use the shawl for a small blanket.

Lovely photos! I was unsnarling yarn myself earlier this week. And I'm also a fan of that nail polish colour - kind of pewter-y!

Your WIPS are so pretty, and coming along well.

My son has a thing about untangling my yarn, and always wants to know if I have got one for him to do. Not always but the puppies help him everynow and then by stealing one of my skeins and tangling it for him.

Your nails looks spectacular, I'm off to get mine painted tomorrow and will definitely consider this colour.

Yes it has been rather un-summery here in the North East hasn't it?

I like the socks and your boneyard looks fun.

that new nail polish colour is so chic!! that tangle-y mess happens to me all the time, even when I'm just winding a skein into a ball. I never use a swift, even though I know it would be easier. I'm old school like that.

Socks look awesome, good luck with your de-tangle job. I think I might pitch it. Not patient enough to spend time fixing it.

Lovely WIPs! Your Boneyard is coming along nicely! Isn't it awful to have to get a new ball just for the sake of a few rows! I usually end up cheating if I know that is going to happen... I use more of the other colour or I make it shorter... or I use another yarn that compliments (if I can get away with it). I'm terrible that way.

You're very patient with your untangling. I had to do that this week for yarn that my son had managed to tangle and got into a terrible grump. He drew a very funny scary picture of what I looked like (oops!)

Pretty nails! Do you use something to strengthen them (special nail enamel, vitamins, minerals, diet)? Unfortunately mines broke very easily.
Your Boneyard Shawl looks so delicious! I like behemoth shawls, they are very useful in wintertime and have a special charm. I don't know how cold the winter is where you live, but here I get a very good use of them.

Eek! Just looking at that big tangle of yarn scares me! I'm glad you like to untangle, because I think you're going to need to really enjoy it to get rid of that mess, LOL!

I love your boneyard shawl colors and that Essie color is awesome! I used it myself a couple of months ago and now I'm thinking I should try it out again soon. :)

I find untangling things to be strangely therapeutic. It's just nice when things go from a giant mess to something more ordered.

I love your nails. Lovelovelove them. I'm wearing Particuliere by Chanel right now, it's a sort of taupe-y grey colour that perfectly matched the colour of the clouds this afternoon. Blergh.
