socks & stuffies

I finally picked up Sophie again, and although the body and leg appeared surprisingly quickly I seem to have lost momentum again. I think I’m putting off the picking up of stitches. It’s not that it’s hard to do, it’s just that I don’t particularly enjoy doing it! I’ve also been a little over zealous with the stuffing. I find it hard to  know when to stop, which is very apparent by the stretched out stitches on the body and leg. Sadly I was too keen to bury the ends, so there’s not much I can do about it now! I might try steam blocking when (if!) I finish to see if that will even things out a little.

There’s also been very little sock progress as I’ve been distracted by spinning, but I’ve got some catching up to do with Sherlock so I’m anticipating a good chunk of knitting getting done whilst I enjoy that. Mindless stripes and t.v. are made for each other!

I have a real problem with overstuffing. My first couple hexipuffs were very overstuffed. I find it's hard to know when to stop. . .

I love the colors on the socks! :) I have yet to do striped socks (that is, where I have to change the colors). . . Maybe someday!

It is hard! Hexipuffs are on my list, so we'll see if I manage to curb the urge to overstuff by then :)

Striped socks are fun! The only downfall is all those blasted ends to weave in afterwards!
Awww, it's so wee and cute!

Stuffing is hard to gauge, isn't it? Especially since it compresses over time, so you've got to stuff a bit extra. But how much extra? Ugh.

Exactly! I'm starting to think that stuffing is a finely tuned art. I hate the idea of a sad little floppy toy, so as long as more stuffing will fit inside I'm always tempted to keep going. Will have to learn to resist :)
Love the half a rabbit shot!

Thank you! I'm going to have to get on with the other half, the poor rabbit look a bit sad with only one appendage. My boyfriend was very confused as he thought that the leg was a tail and he couldn't understand why I would make a rabbit with such a long tail!
Oh I adore Sherlock too! Never tried to make stuffies, but isn't there a chance that the stuffing will shrink eventually? I don't know, I'm just guessing based on my experience with store bought stuffed animals.

Possibly. I hadn't really thought of that, but stuffing does tend to compact down over time, doesn't it?
