shades of grey

I cast on for a Stripe Study shawl. I’ve been wanting to knit one for so long! I bought the yarn for it at the tail end of last year but for some reason I’ve been putting off casting on. I’m still working on the twisty socks, but I just couldn’t wait any longer for a Stripe Study!

I’ve worked about three inches further along the foot with the sock since I took this photo. I always find working on the foot the most enjoyable part of a sock. I love doing the heel flap and picking up the gusset stitches, but once you’re onto the foot it feels like the home stretch. Of course it doesn’t hurt that by the time you’ve made it this far you’re already pretty familiar with the pattern, and being able to knit plain stocking stitch for half of the round feels like a lovely welcome treat!

Thanks! Hopefully it'll turn out to be almost as wonderful as your lovely rainbow one :)
Sock and stripe study are looking awesome! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's obsessed with grey these days. :)

I didn't even realise it was all grey until I was about to hit the publish button! That's probably a clear sign that my grey obsession is getting out of control... at least we can be in it together :P
Fantastic photographs! I'm really into grey right now too. Can't wait to see how the stripe study turns out!

Thank you! Oh I know, I'm so excited to join in the contrasting colour!
Can't wait to see the FOs for both these projects. Beautiful photos!!!!

Well, I'm almost finished with the sock so that's half an FO right there! The shawl might take a little longer though... :)
Loving the twisty socks and I adore the stripy shawl!

Thanks! I'm so looking forward to joining in the contrasting colour for the shawl. Stripes are just too much fun :)
I completely agree with you about sock knitting progress. Once the gussets are done the rest of the foot just flies! Your blog is definitely a stufy in grey today - time to find some crazy bright yarn!

I know, right?! I should be reaching for colour in all this sunshine!
Mmm - love me some greys - bet you've got a great contrast for the stripe study. I'm dreaming of a grellow one myself. Also that whooshy foot feeling is one of the reasons I love top down socks best, though the heel turn is my single favourite moment :)

I've got a lovely orangey red lined up for the contrast, can't wait to get started on it :)

A grellow stripe study would be gorgeous! Grey and yellow look so perfect together. I was tempted by that combo...!

I love the heel turn too, it's a little moment in my socks where I feel super clever :P
I often get surprised when I put my projects together and realize that they are all the same colour - it's a funny thing that shifts and happens organically, it seems. I love your greys, especially the lace!

Thank you! It's funny how you can subconsiously gravitate towards certain colours :)
I got super excited when I noticed you have your Etsy shop up and running!! (forgive me if it's been up earlier and I just haven't noticed...) yum, yum, I'm doing to have to watch what you put up there!! I know what you mean about turning the heel - I'm on the foot of a sock at the moment, and it does very much feel like the home run. Looking forward to seeing the finished FOs!

Thank you! Don't worry, you haven't missed anything, I only started updating it in the last few weeks :) I've been meaning to do a quick post about it but life seems to have gotten in the way of blogging at the moment!

I love how socks just fly after the heel turn, it's such a great feeling :)
