colours

I’ve been dyeing up a storm over the past few weeks. This is a selection of of mawata silk squares which are fast becoming one of my favourite things to play with. I thought I was doing quite well at varying my colours, but a quick glance above tells me that that’s not really the case! I seem to gravitate towards blue most of the time, but it is my favourite colour!

I had a go an ombre/gradient dyeing one of my squares, and although I do love the resulting effect I think I’m going to have to experiment with different methods as the straight forward dunk in and pull out has messed up the neatness of the layers a little.

I think I’ve become more than a little obsessed with mawata. I’ve no idea what any of these are going to become, or even if I’m going to keep them all, but I’m definitely having lots of fun playing around with all these colours.

I love those colours! Are silk hankies hard to spin?

Thank you! They're pretty easy to spin! I've heard that they're a great beginner fibre, especially for the drop spindle as you don't really have to draft much as you spin. You can also just stretch out the silk and knit straight from it without spinning! There's a great tutorial for it here on knitty. Just email me or leave a comment if you'd like to know more, I'd be happy to help!
Oooh... I love blue!!! So pretty :)

Thank you! I love dyeing them, it's so much fun :)
Those silk hankies are gorgeous! I must resist thinking that I should spin though. I just don't have time - there's too much knitting and sewing to be done first. :-)

Thank you!

*sigh* there is just not enough time for all the crafts in the world. I want to try sewing, quilting and pottery making oh so much, but I think someone'll have to come up with a way of cramming an extra few hours in each day before I'd ever be able to get around to it!
Those are gorgeous colours!! I reckon there's a future for you as an indie dyer if you wanted to do it.

Thank you! Oh I'm so glad to hear you say that! I've been thinking about putting some of my hand dyed stuff in my Etsy shop. Got a few things to finalise but I'm really looking forward to setting up soon!
You must!
